Woo! I got into UCSB's Materials program. UW and Cornell are also looking good, but nothing official yet. Nothing from Stanford or MIT either. Patrick's going to kick my ass (he hasn't heard anything yet)! Life is going very nicely right now...I hope it stays on this path. It'll inevitably get a little turbulent towards the end of March when I have to finish my thesis and my book (25 copies of it). But right now, all is well :)

cool-ass metal book

That picture is of a way cool metal book that I found today at Denison library (Scripps' library). The book itself is the part with holes in it; the part that says Mesmer is the slipcover for it. I'm doing a Typography independent study, which means I get to make a book that's all my own. Click above to go to my resource page for the class. Maybe I'll post my story and some more pictures as the semester progresses. Of course, since this is the last semester of college and my thesis is due in April, I might be a bit busy for that. We'll see...I'm really excited to make my book--I hope it turns out well!

In other news, I have a lot of reading to do, but it's all enjoyable. I like all of my classes, luckily. I'm not sure if I mentioned that my schedule is up in my school section. It is...

I apologize for such a boring, short entry; homework calls!

Only a short entry because Patrick's here and I have pie to make! Here are the pictures from my dad's house...I'll add some to my photo album when I get back to school (Jan. 20). Sorry if they take a while to load. We're leaving on Friday (Jan. 11) for Patrick's house, then two days in Carmel (a wonderful Christmas present), then back to school. Yikes!

I wish I had pictures to put up, but I decided to leave my camera stuff at my mom's house so it wouldn't get lost. So no pictures...I'm sorry!

I spent New Year's Eve alone (by choice, partially) watching Chocolat and rewatching Josie and the Pussycats with Sigfried, the fat (but losing weight) cat. It was nice. Both were good movies. Even better, when I woke up this morning, there was snow outside and it was blowing around and sparkling because it was sunny. So pretty...

Then my dad made us omelets and fresh-squeezed orange juice and we discussed what will become of us in 2002. I'm going to try hard to cut back on spending, for me and others, because soon I'll need to be self-supporting and I'm not there yet. I'm scared, but it's a necessary step, and I'm sure I'll get there somehow.

I've been working on my sweater coat. I've gotten about 9" done so far, and there's still a lot left to do. But if I ever finish, it'll be nice. Too bad I had to use cheap yarn, but it's so large that it would've cost too much to make it out of nice stuff. Plus there's that whole not spending money just because I have it (a common problem of mine). Just because I can afford nice yarn at the moment doesn't mean I should buy it. I have to keep telling myself that.

Happy snowy new year! Who knows how my life will have changed by next year...

Ocean's Eleven was fun. It had cool gadgets and lots of famous people. After the movie, we went to Johnny Carino's, a fake atmosphere Italian place. I ate too much, as usual. But at least I didn't try to squeeze in dessert!

I was going to mention in my previous entry that it snowed this morning, for the first time since I've been back in CO. It only snowed for about an hour, and it melted soon after, but it was nice all the same. I hope it snows more for Patrick so he knows what winter is like!

I've been knitting a lot while I've been home. I just finished these horribly large mittens, made out of this fuzzy pink boucle yarn that was on sale at Michaels. They are way too big for me:

I think they'd fit a trucker. Or maybe they could be a ski mask for a small child. They're going to Goodwill as soon as I get back to CA. They occupied my time, which is all I care about.

My mom and I went to Fort Collins' fancy yarn store--Lambspun--yesterday. The yarn there was so beautiful. It was too expensive though, so we went to Joanne's instead and bought me some way cheap blue yarn. I'm going to make a sweater coat out of it; the pattern is from the 70's. I found it in my mom's house, tucked away in the basement. That'll take me awhile.

Here's another picture of Mister, my mom's new cat, to entertain you. Once I have access to my camera hardware again, I'll put up some pictures from my dad's house.
