So I've been sneezing a lot lately. Stuffy nose too. I think it's allergies, finally catching up with me (I've never had any problems before this year). Patrick thinks it's smog. That could be...

In other news, it looks like Patrick is the first Mudder to get into Stanford CS in 10 years. Of course, at the moment that's just an unfounded rumor, but I like it. I got me a smart one!

Those are the two things I wanted to say before I go to bed. Oh, and I made a metal box (with Charlie's help) on Tuesday. Maybe I'll take a picture, but it's not much to look at. I'm proud of it though.

Starting next week, life gets busy. It will stop being so hectic on March 17, when I get back from visiting MIT. Our spring break starts on the 16th, luckily. Poor Patrick won't get a birthday present until after I get back because his birthday (21 years old!) falls right in between my visit to Stanford and my visit to MIT. But I'm not complaining--I'm lucky to be visiting them in the first place. Maybe I thrive on being busy. I also thrive on taking naps and walking on the beach though. Life is good anyway.

I swear, our bathroom is haunted. First there's the toilet that keeps breaking (right now it swears that it's all better, but I don't believe it). Then, tonight when I went to take a shower, the water sprayed out of the wrong part of the shower head. I turned knobs until it came out right, but that's weird...it's never happened before. Maybe this is an omen.

So this weekend is going to be taken up by my future, namely visting UCSB. I leave tomorrow afternoon and get back on Saturday night. It's close enough that I'm driving there. Too bad I hate highway driving, but it's better than flying. I don't know what Patrick will do without me to make him get out of bed! I'll probably find him covered in bed sores or something when I get back.

baby heads abound. This one is from the MIT Museum

Nothing new to say, but I thought I'd post something anyway. Although I do hate to move that cool picture from Sunday further down the page...

In Gender and SciFi, we read A Canticle for Leibowitz. It starts out like any normal science fiction story from the 50's--impending nuclear holocaust, monks preserving scientific knowledge, poorly crafted female characters. And then the author (Walter Miller, Jr.) throws in a two-headed woman whose non-functional head comes to life and claims to be the Immaculate Conception. This freaky old lady's second head opens its eyes and gives this abbot communion right before he dies. I'm not doing the story justice...it's freaky. A baby head on an old woman's body mimicking what everyone else says in a little whispery voice. Ugh...

In a slighly less weird literary vein, I read The Picture of Dorian Gray for my Oscar Wilde class at Pitzer. It made me feel intellectual reading it because of all the paradoxes and philosophy Wilde throws in. Not something I'd read for fun (I prefer fluff that doesn't require thinking), but still a cool story.

I spent 3 hours working on my digital electronics homework. It's therapeutic, taking a tech class again. I find logic and organization very comforting. Probably why I like coding too...

Eh, that's good enough for now. I'm going to bed.

Yay! I just heard from Cornell and MIT; they both accepted me. Now we just have to wait to hear from Patrick's schools. I wish this choice were obvious, but it's not...

Stanford admitted me! Life is good :) Sorry most of my recent entries have been all smarmy and happy. It's okay; there are plenty of sites out there that aren't so upbeat.
