yellow rose from Victoria

Yay! Victoria just stopped by and gave me a rose from the Scripps rose garden (she had a big bunch of them). I've always wanted to get roses from the garden, but I never have scissors when I'm walking through. But now I have a rose anyway.

I was productive (essay-wise) today. I also got to be the receptionist in Patrick's media studio movie. The media studio show is on May 3, and I'm excited; Mudders make good movies!

My For Sale page went out in the Mudd mailing today, and I sold the chemistry books right away. In fact, three different people wanted them! I feel silly getting rid of perfectly good textbooks, but I need as few boxes as possible when I move. Still no word from anyone about the other stuff I'm selling...

Stressful day today...lots of worrying about how I'll move to Boston. Looks like I'll have to sell my mattress, but I won't be able to sell it until the end of the summer. I'll work it out later. I'll miss my wonderful bed though (and having a Patrick in it!).

On Friday, I collated all my signatures, and today I started sewing my books up. Almost done, but I'm certainly cutting it close (my deadline is Wednesday).

I also did some hum reading and grading on Friday night and did CyberSense work today, so I feel like I've been working hard. But what I should really be focusing on is the three essays I have to write. I think I'll save that until tomorrow.

Before I forget, you're all invited to the typography publication party next week. It's on Wednesday (May 1) at 12:30 pm in Sheets 100 at Scripps (Sheets is the big concrete building across the street from Jacobs). There will be food and you can look at my finished books (and the general typography class' book, which looks way cool) and buy a copy if you so desire (they'll be $50 each).

If you can't make it to the party, I plan on scanning my book and putting it online so you can look at it wherever you are. I'd also be willing to send you a copy ($50, free shipping) if you're interested. But you should wait and see the finished product before you commit yourself to that (I have this weird inferiority thing going on where I can't really believe that people would want to pay $50 for something I made, though that's comparatively cheap, in the book art world). I'll put up ordering details sometime after May 1 when things have calmed down.

For all you Mudders reading this, I'm selling a few things in anticipation of the move to MIT. You can go here (page no longer exists) to see what I have to offer. To all the rest of you, if you live within a half hour of Claremont, CA, I'll deliver anything you buy from me. It's so painful selling this stuff for so much less than I paid. Oh well...I'm tired!

I hope my putting up so many pictures recently hasn't been annoying to those of you with slow connections. Living with the privilege of a fast college network, it's easy to forget that only 20% of Internet users have broadband access. Sorry!

That said, here are some pictures! Today was beautiful, though I spent most of it working in the typography room, desparately pochoiring (Patrick thinks that's a freaky word and wants me to stop saying it; I agree). I finally finished around 11 tonight. Woo! The first picture is of Patrick enjoying the sun on the lawn outside of Platt (our cafeteria). The second is of me knitting my drawstrings, also on the lawn. The sky doesn't look very nice in my picture, but I assure you, it was beautiful!

Mudd just finished its annual elections for the student government (ASHMC). The great Noah Philips won and had a monument erected in his honor outside of West dorm. You can't read it, but the scrolling LED display underneath his picture talked about delegating responsibilities under his regime (young women will start doing aerobics in his room, while older men will work long hours with horrible wages and will drink themselves into a stupor after work). Hee hee...Mudders (and Westies especially) can be so creative. It's a little strange to think of Noah in position of power, but I think he'll do a good job if he cares about it. For those of you who don't know him, he's very outspoken and smart, but doesn't always...um...apply himself...when it comes to academics. I like him though; he's fun and charismatic and very good at heckling people. Oh, and good with the ladies!
